Gilmer County's mountains, rivers, forests, steep terrain, and remote communities demand crews who can operate well beyond a traditional fire and EMS response. Our Special Operations capabilities include swift water rescue, boat operations, rope and technical rescue, vehicle extrication, wildland fire suppression, Wildland Search and Rescue, and drone-assisted search and mapping.

These are not capabilities kept on paper. They are built around the realities of our county and the incidents our crews may face. Members have the opportunity to develop specialized skills, train in demanding environments, and become part of a team prepared to reach people when terrain, distance, weather, or access make the response more difficult.
